Carlyle on music
Music is well said to be the speech of angels; in fact, nothing among the utterances allowed to man is felt to be so divine. It brings us near to the infinite.
Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881), Scottish essayist and historian, is well-known for his so-called “great man” theory of history, which asserted that history is primarily shaped by “heroes.” He considered history to be "Divine Scripture."
