How to Read Music (Basics) 2
Here's the second lesson on how to read music. If you don't read music yet, you might want to go back and look at Lesson 1. To see a list of the blogs on reading music I've posted so far, click on the link "Music Curriculum" at the top of this post.
Even if you do read music, you might like seeing these cool Khan Academy animations. Each one includes a brief recording of an orchestra masterpiece that illustrates the music reading lesson. And they're short! About 4 minutes in length.
When you're finished looking at the video, I encourage you to take the little, 10-question quiz I wrote to test yourself on what you learned.
Words you might not know:
Rhythm: not the same as the beat of the music, which tends to be steady; the rhythm is a mixture of faster and slower notes.
Beat: the pulse of the music; tends to be steady for a whole piece of music, like your heartbeat (until you watch a scary movie). You tap your foot to the beat of the music.
Bar: the same as "measure," a group of beats. A measure is shown with a bar line. Our music usually comes in measures or groups of 2 or 3 beats or their multiples (4 or 6 for example). Bars are explained very well in Lesson 1.
This is lesson 2 of 6.
